Oprah Winfrey and Alan Ball have teamed up to produce "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." The project, which is being adapted from the non-fiction tome by Rebecca Sloot, will be turned into a telepic for HBO, according to Variety.com.

"The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks" is based on the true story of a woman who lost her battle to cervical cancer in 1951, when she was 31 years old. Doctors posthumously removed cells from her body, which led to several scientific breakthroughs.

Kate Forte, President of Oprah Winfrey's production company, Harpo films, told the news source that she's ecstatic to be co-producing with Ball.

"Once Alan came aboard, it gave Rebecca the comfort of knowing that she'd found the perfect combination of producers and the perfect home for her story," Forte said.

Ball is the creator of "True Blood" and "Six Feet Under," two series which have accrued endless accolades for the premium cable network.
