The fate of Tony Soprano is still up for debate, but it looks like James Gandolfini's career is thriving.

The revered actor, who shot to fame after playing a fictional mob boss on HBO's hit show "The Sopranos," is reportedly in talks to return to the paid cable network.

According to Variety, Gandolfini is set to executive produce a half-hour show called "Taxi-22." The series is a planned adaptation of the French-Canadian sitcom "Taxi 0-22," which is a hit in Quebec.

The HBO version will revolve around a politically-incorrect cab driver who lives in New York City.

Gandolfini has worked hard to shed the skin of his ruthless television alter-ego. The versatile actor recently appeared in the comedy "In the Loop" and the thriller "The Taking of Pelham 123," which also starred John Travolta and Denzel Washington.

Gandolfini was also cast in the drama "Welcome to the Rileys," costarring with "Twilight" actress Kristen Stewart. The film premiered at Sundance earlier this year.
