"Twilight" director to helm "The Girl with the Red Riding Hood"

Catherine Hardwicke is best known for helming "Twilight," but the talented director has another project in the works. Her film, "The Girl with the Red Riding Hood," stars "Big Love" actress Amanda Seyfried. Hardwicke recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the casting process. "We had eight guys all competing with each other for two parts. They all read with Amanda and they also had to do fight scenes with each other. It was kinda good to get their aggression out," she told the news source. The leading male role, Peter, went to Shiloh Fernandez, who almost landed the part of Edward Cullen in "Twilight." However, Hardwicke admits that at first Seyfried didn't think the young actor was right for her new film. "After a couple of readings she started seeing his intensity and depth and they really clicked," says Hardwicke. It looks like Hardwicke is becoming an expert at directing the fantasy genre, as "The Girl with the Red Riding Hoods" centers on a medieval town that is being continually attacked by a werewolf. The film will be in theaters in 2012.
