"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" is Heath Ledger's last film

Fans of Heath Ledger may remember his Academy-Award winning performance as the Joker in "The Dark Knight," but those who enjoy his acting will love "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus," which will be released on DVD on April 27. The fantasy film, which was directed by Terry Gilliam, was the very last movie Ledger acted in before his untimely death in 2008. The story centers on Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer), a leader of a traveling theater group. The entourage includes Anton (Andrew Garfield), dwarf Percy (Verne Troyer), and Parnassus' daughter, Valentina (Lily Cole). Parnassus has made a deal with the devil, Dr Nick (Tom Waits). This leads him to take people through his magical mirror so he can explore their imaginations. Soon, they meet Tony (Ledger), who ends up falling for Valentina. Although Ledger had been cast as the one of the leading roles, he passed away while the movie was in production. Gilliam later cast Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell as different versions of the character Tony. Ledger was also nominated for his performance as Ennis Del Mar in "Brokeback Mountain."
