The second season of "Sanctuary," the popular Canadian series which is now shown on the Syfy channel, is due to be released on DVD June 15. The drama is adored by lovers of science-fiction, but fans of all television genres are sure to find the series entertaining.

"Sanctuary" revolves around Dr Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping), a 158-year-old English scientist. Magnus dedicates her work to seeking out and protecting non-human creatures, which are known as abnormals.

The fantasy was a hit with audiences, as the pilot episode was the highest-rated original series premiere on the network throughout its entire history.

It looks like the stars of the show have some experience being cast as futuristic characters. Tapping played Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Carter on "Stargate SG-1" while Emilie Ullerup, who plays the character Ashley Magnus, has been seen in episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" and "Smallville."

The third season of "Sanctuary" is set to premiere in the fall.
