Will Smith is keeping busy these days. The popular actor, who has starred in dozens of big budget blockbusters during his successful career, has reportedly just signed on to appear in two additional "Independence Day" movies.

According to ISEB.net, Smith will reprise his role as Captain Steve Hiller. The news source also reports the second and third installments of the planned franchise will shoot back-to-back.

In the original "Independence Day," the story centers on the government's plan to thwart a hostile alien invasion on earth. The film also focuses on a group of families who attempt to survive the attack and retaliate against the space creatures on the Fourth of July.

It's easy to see why "Independence Day" was a hit. Aside from an exciting screenplay, the film also starred popular actors Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman.

Smith is known for generating huge ticket sales at the box office. His recent movie, the drama "Seven Pounds," took in over $169 million worldwide.ADNFCR-2673-ID-19700669-ADNFCR
