(We do not collect these names or emails!)"The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans" will be released on DVD April 6, and fans of the surreal but engrossing film are counting down the days. The comedy-drama was directed by the great Werner Herzog.
Starring Nicolas Cage as the shady cop Terence McDonagh, the story takes place in New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. At the beginning of the film, McDonagh suffers a back injury and soon becomes addicted to prescription medication.
The film follows McDonagh as he develops a serious drug problem. But, parallel to his personal struggle is the case he is investigating - the murder of several Senegalese immigrants. To complicate things, while on the trail, he meets and falls in love with the sultry prostitute Frankie Donnenfeld (Mendes).
Hysterical and yet poignant, "The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" winds up being a wonderful cinematic experience. The film certainly had a professional at the helm - Herzog has received wide praise for his documentary "Grizzly Man" and the intense Vietnam War movie "Rescue Dawn."
Cage most recently lent his voice to the role of Dr Tenma in "Astro Boy."
