Superhero movies create superstar actors, and it looks like Channing Tatum could be in the running to land one of the coveted roles. The popular actor from the tearjerker "Dear John" and the sports drama "Fighting" is reportedly in talks with Marvel Studios to play Captain America.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Tatum has yet to see a script for "The First Avenger: Captain America" but he has been approached about the project. The studio is also rumored to be courting Wilson Bethel from "The Young and the Restless" and Garrett Hedlund, who will be starring in the highly-anticipated "Tron Legacy" movie.

"The First Avenger: Captain America" will be adapted from the Marvel Comics series based on the character. The story follows the protagonist, Steve Rogers, as he's transformed from sickly to superhuman. His growth is due to an experimental drug he's given by the government that is used to boost military morale.

If Tatum nabs the coveted role, it would be his second time on the silver screen as a superhero. The promising actor also starred in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra." However, the big action film was met with lukewarm reviews and underwhelming ticket sales.
