(We do not collect these names or emails!)The Oscars took a moment to recognize the work of the late Hollywood filmmaker John Hughes last night.
Hughes, who passed away from a heart attack last August, is best known for penning the coming-of-age films "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "The Breakfast Club." The modern-day classics are adored for portraying teenage lust and angst with realistic vision and integrity.
Former Brat Pack members gathered together at the Hollywood ceremony last night to honor the legend. Molly Ringwald, who starred in several of the screenwriter's works, began with a touching tribute. "Hughes saw something in me that I didn't see in myself," she told the audience.
Matthew Broderick offered a more light-hearted memory of Hughes' impact. He recounted how a day doesn't go by without someone asking him, "Hey Ferris, is this your day off?" The actor rose to superstardom over 20 years ago for his take on a teen skipping school in "Bueller."
Fans of Hughes will be ecstatic to know that his stories may live on. According to The Hollywood Reporter, an unproduced screenplay of his titled "Grisbys Go Broke" is being passed around at the moment.
