Print this article Robert De Niro will never be short of a gig. The lauded actor just signed on to star with Bradley Cooper in the thriller "The Dark Fields."
The suspenseful film, which is based on a novel of the same name by Alan Glynn, goes into pre-production this May, according to Variety.
Cooper will play the protagonist, a writer who discovers a drug that can give him super-intelligence. De Niro will lend his acting chops to the role of a financial mogul who starts pursuing Cooper's character.
The project will be helmed by Neil Burger, who directed Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti in the critically-acclaimed movie, "The Illusionist." Because the period film was the perfect blend of mystery and intrigue, Burger is likely to be a good fit for the upcoming drama.
It is also rumored that Elizabeth Banks, star of "W." and "Role Models," is being tapped to play the female lead, according to ComingSoon.net.
Cooper's career has skyrocketed over the past few years. His recent hit, "The Hangover," is one of the highest-grossing comedies of all time.
