Print this article "Coraline," directed by Henry Selick, is based on the 2002 novel of the same name. The film tells the story of an enthusiastic young girl who is bored in the country home to which she and her parents have recently relocated.
Both of her parents are writers who work from home, and Coraline (voiced by Dakota Fanning) is bored and frustrated by the lack of excitement in her life.
She resorts to exploring their new home, an apartment in a rickety pink house, and discovers a door to another dimension where her mother (Teri Hatcher) and father (John Hodgman) are attentive and loving. However, it appears that there is more to this strange world than meets the eye.
Fans of other stop-motion films with an eerie edge, such as "The Nightmare Before Christmas" or "Corpse Bride" will be sure to enjoy the stunning visual effects of "Coraline," as will anyone who enjoys films about courageous children, like "Matilda" or "James and the Giant Peach."
The move has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
