Many movies head to the Sundance Film Festival in the hopes of gaining the distribution of a major studio. That's exactly what happened for "Animal Kingdom," an Australian film that attracted the praise of critics and has generated a lot of buzz since its screening.

Sony Pictures Classic has picked up the riveting crime drama and it might soon be coming to theaters near you, CinemaBlend.com reports.

The film tells the story of Joshua (James Frecheville), a 17-year-old boy who moves in with his grandmother and uncles after his mother dies of a heroin overdose. The catch is, this close-knit family is a well known group of criminals who slowly draw Joshua into their devious deeds.

Joshua becomes uncomfortable when his uncles ask him to do more than he's willing to protect the family, and a police officer (played by Guy Pearce), tries to get the young man to reveal the secrets of the clan.

Pearce has also appeared in films like "Momento" and "The Time Machine."

Moviegoers who liked other stories about criminals and the law enforcement officials who are onto them, like "The Departed" or "The Untouchables" are sure to enjoy "Animal Kingdom."ADNFCR-2673-ID-19625073-ADNFCR
