Audiences of all ages delighted in Spike Jonze's reimagining of the classic children's book "Where the Wild Things Are."

When the film begins, Max (Max Records), a lonely 9-year-old boy, is yearning for companionship and acceptance. His mother, Connie (Catherine Keener), is dating a new man (Mark Ruffalo), and Max is jealous of the attention that she gives him.

One night, after throwing a violent tantrum, he tears out of his home and runs off, accidentally stumbling into the land of the Wild Things, sensitive and child-like creatures who at first frighten Max but eventually come to accept him as their king.

Though the fantastical land appears to be everything that Max could hope for, he slowly begins to realize that no matter where he goes he will be responsible for his actions, and he begins to feel homesick.

James Gandolfini, Chris Cooper, Forest Whitaker and Catherine O'Hara all lend their voices to the Wild Things who come to life through a combination of live-action animation and CGI effects.

Spike Jonze directed the film, which he co-wrote with author Dave Eggers.
