Print this article If there was a version of "The Little Mermaid" for grown-ups, it would probably be a lot like "Ondine," an Irish film that tells the story of Syracuse (Colin Farrell), a lonely fisherman who finds a mysterious woman named Ondine (Alicja Bachleda-Curus) caught in his fishing net one day.
The other citizens of the coastal fishing village are intrigued by her sudden appearance, and as they seek to understand where she comes from, Ondine impacts all of their lives in a different way.
Farrell's daughter is the only one who seems to suspect what might be obvious to moviegoers: Ondine could be a mermaid.
In ancient mythology, an Ondine was a water nymph or fairy-like creature who was thought to be able to gain a soul if they married a man and had his child.
Farrell recently appeared briefly in "Crazy Heart," which has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award, and he also received critical acclaim for his performance in "In Bruges."
"Ondine" will be released in theaters this summer.
