"Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs" recalls the beloved children's book.

Fans of Judi and Ron Barretts' classic children's book "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" will be familiar with the concept behind the film adaptation. In the book, residents of the town Chewandswallow receive their meals from the sky. The weather provides hamburgers, mashed potatoes, juice, soup and other delicious treats. However, when Chewandswallow is suddenly beset by floods and storms, the residents are forced to leave and must find a way to provide food for themselves. The film adaptation is loosely based on the Barretts' story, with a few notable differences. The main character in "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" is the young inventor Flint Lockwood, who's voiced by Bill Hader. When Lockwood's new town of Swallowfalls experiences a food shortage, he turns his skills to creating meals. After a mechanical mishap, cheeseburgers begin to fall from the sky, and everyone in town tries to get in on the new invention. Anna Faris voices the role of Sam Sparks, a spunky weather intern, and Neil Patrick Harris of "How I Met Your Mother" provides plenty of comic relief as Flint's pet monkey.
