Print this article Does Clint Eastwood ever stop? Last year the director turned out the moving and critically acclaimed "Gran Torino," and his latest project "Invictus" will be released in theaters December 11.
The film tells the true story of the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. Matt Damon stars as Francois Pienaar, the team captain for South Africa, and Morgan Freeman plays Nelson Mendela who, at the start of the film, had just been released from prison.
In 1995 South Africa had abolished apartheid and the country was at a crossroads. When Mandela is eventually elected president, he sees the Rugby World Cup as a way to unite the country and repair the past.
The movie is based on John Carlin's book, "Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation."
Fans of sports movies, like "Miracle" or "Remember the Titans" will be drawn to the film, as will moviegoers who enjoy political films like "Charlie Wilson's War."
Eastwood is a five-time Academy Award winner. His film "Million Dollar Baby" won Best Picture and Best Director.
