Print this article Jeff Bridges has already been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead for his portrayal of an aging country singer in "Crazy Heart" and the film is yet to be released in theaters.
Bridges plays Bad Blake, a musician who's passed his prime, washed up and usually drunk. When he meets Jean Craddock, a young journalist (Maggie Gyllenhaal) he attempts to reassemble his life. Colin Farrell also appears as Tommy Sweet, a rising young country star who Blake takes under his wing.
Thewrap.com reports that the film was originally slated to be released in 2010, but after rave reviews at limited screenings the release date was moved up to December 16, presumably so that it could compete in this year's Oscar race.
Bridges also recently appeared alongside George Clooney and Ewan McGregor as Bill Django in the comedy "The Men Who Stare at Goats." The movie tells the story of the U.S. military's attempt to utilize psychic powers in some of its soldiers.
Movie goers who enjoyed "Walk the Line" will be sure to like "Crazy Heart."
