The final episode of "Monk" will air this week

This Friday, the long-running USA show "Monk" will air the last episode of its eighth and final season. Fans of the detective will be sad to see him go. The show boasted excellent writing and the title character, Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub) was surrounded by a great supporting cast. Monk is a brilliant detective, but his obsessive compulsive behavior often prevents him from blending into society. His endless list of fears includes ladybugs, milk, germs, ladders and clutter. However, his assistant Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) often tries to coax Monk out of his shell and helps his genius shine. Though Monk tackled many cases during the show's long run, the mystery of who is responsible for his wife's death is a thread that runs throughout the series. Fans of another off-beat mystery show, the WB's "Veronica Mars," a series about a girl detective who's searching for the killer of her best friend while tackling smaller cases in the mean time, and anyone planning on seeing "Sherlock Holmes" (starring Robert Downey Jr.) should be sure to check out "Monk."
