Independent Spirit Award nominees announced

Variety reported that the runaway independent hit of this year, "500 Days of Summer," garnered an Independent Spirit Award nomination for best feature. The film stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt (who was nominated for best male lead for his part) as Tom Hansen, a young greeting card writer who has spent most of his life yearning for the one true love that he believes will complete him. When Tom meets Summer, who's played by the endearingly quirky Zooey Deschanel, he believes that he has found the one. Summer, however, does not seem as sure of their relationship. Their love story, which spans 500 days, is told in flashbacks and clever transitions, against the back drop of a hip, feel-good soundtrack which features The Smiths. Deschanel has recently appeared opposite Jim Carrey in "Yes Man" and "Gigantic." Other films nominated for the prestigious award include "Amreeka," "Precious," "Sin Nombre" and "The Last Station." The other nominees for best male lead included Jeff Bridges for "Crazy Heart," Colin Firth for “A Single Man," Souleymane Sy Savane for "Goodbye Solo" and Adam Scott for "The Vicious Kind."
