Print this article Peter Jackson, who helmed all three installments in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy, has turned his hand to another fantastical adventure film. "The Lovely Bones," based on Alice Sebold's best-selling novel of the same name, tells the story Susie Salmon, played by Saoirse Ronan.
The story is set in 1973, and follows Susie, a normal teenager who is murdered by her sociopathic neighbor George Harvey (Stanley Tucci).
After her murder, Susie is in the "in-between" a purgatory of sorts as her family struggles to come to terms with her death and find her killer.
Saoirse Ronan played the naïve but precocious Briony Tallis in "Atonement," and was nominated for an Academy Award for her role.
Other big names in the film include Susan Sarandon, who appears as Susies boozing grandmother who moves in with the family after Susie's murder, and Mark Wahlberg and Rachel Weisz as Susie's parents.
Movie-goers who enjoyed other moving, fantastical stories, such as "The Time Traveler's Wife" will like "The Lovely Bones."
