Print this article History buffs and film fans alike will enjoy "The People Speak," a documentary film based on the landmark non-fiction work, "A People's History of the United States," which was written by Howard Zinn.
The documentary film boasts an incredible cast which includes Matt Damon, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Marisa Tomei and many others.
The actors give dramatic readings from passages in the book, and musical guests like Bob Dylan and Taj Mahal perform as well. Anyone with an interest in American history or civil rights is sure to find the film fascinating. The book was a candid look at a different side of history that runs counter to the one found in most textbooks.
The documentary is interspersed with historical footage and narrations.
Viggo Mortensen will also be appearing in another film based on an acclaimed book soon. "The Road," which brings Cormac McCarthy's novel to the big screen, follows the story of a man and his son as they struggle through a post-apocalyptic world.
"The Road" will be released in theaters on November 25.
