(We do not collect these names or emails!)Trekkies rejoice! After seven long years, there is a new installment in the beloved Star Trek series. The movie traces the life of the young James Kirk as he struggles to find his place in the alien-inhabited universe of 2387.
Kirk begins the film as a talented daredevil who has a problem with authority. However, his drive and competitive nature eventually send him to outer space. Kirk soon finds himself in a leadership position, battling interstellar villains to preserve the United Federation of Planets.
There has been some debate among hard-core fans about the validity of the alternative reality storyline presented in the film. At certain points in the story, characters return from the past to alter the course of the future.
The young Captain Kirk is portrayed by Chris Pine, who played Bo Barrett in "Bottle Shock." Pine had some big shoes to fill. The iconic role was originally played by William Shatner, recently featured as the voice of Ozzie in "Over the Hedge.""Star Trek" was directed by J.J. Abrams, who has helmed other action-adventure flicks like "Cloverfield." It is rumored that Abrams, who also wrote "Mission Impossible" and "Mission Impossible III," might be working on "Mission Impossible IV." His latest effort will be an accessible joyride for fans of his previous work, as well as those fluent in Klingon.
