(We do not collect these names or emails!)Turning the very familiar into the humorous is one technique movie-makers love and Ethan and Joel Coen's latest film employs it too. "A Serious Man" comes to the big screen on October 2, and is described by the Los Angeles Times as a "vaguely autobiographical account of the travails of a downtrodden, 1960s-era Jewish physics professor who takes it on the chin." The news provider further explains how the Jewish culture forms the basis for many of the film's comedic moments.
The duo adeptly creates situations where the audience knows not whether to laugh or gasp. "The Big Lebowski" is a hugely famous Coen brothers' film about mistaken identity. Jeffery "The Dude" Lebowski (Jeff Bridges) embarks on an epic journey to reclaim his name. He must prove not to be a millionaire with the same moniker so he can return to his relaxed lifestyle - bowling and drinking "Caucasians" (aka White Russians.)
More recently, Ethan and Joel Coen wrote and directed "Burn After Reading." Two gym employees - played by Brad Pitt and Frances McDormand - find a misplaced computer disk. They believe it contains military secrets and hope to exchange the information with the Russian embassy for money, hoping their dreams will come true. As with most Coen brothers' movies, things don't always go as planned.
