If you know the SyFy channel schedule by heart and are eagerly awaiting the second series of "Sanctuary," it's a great idea to pick up "Sanctuary: Season 1" on DVD in the meantime.

The series presents a futuristic landscape, created with computer graphics and shot over green screen. In this world, a scientific superteam, headed by Dr Helen Magnus (Amanda Tapping) seek to learn about mysterious beings. She plays a forensic scientist intent on uncovering these creatures' secrets. Her daughter Ashley (Emilie Ullerup) accompanies her, along with forensic psychiatrist Dr. Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne) and techie Henry (Ryan Robbins).

The group work to study these Abnormals - or monsters - and try to contain the more dangerous creatures that they find.

Not only does "Sanctuary: Season 1" focus on a scientifically superior world, but it was filmed with ground-breaking techniques. Camera operators worked with RED One cameras. This system films action at twice the speed of existing high definition cameras.

To bring this technological splendor home, pick up "Sanctuary: Season 1" on DVD. The set has plenty of special features including sneak peeks at Season 2, behind the scenes footage and a web-based mini-series
