John Carpenter's THE THING gets prequelized with this Universal Pictures film starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead as an American graduate student who heads to the Antarctic to join a Norwegian team of scientists who discover an alien ship buried in the ice. Joel Edgerton co-stars as a chopper pilot who helps Winstead, with newcomer Matthijs Van Heijningen Jr. making his directorial debut from a script by BATTLESTAR GALACTICA's Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer.
