A boundlessly energetic musical romance based on Max Shulman's book, that saw the creation of that archetypical girl-watcher Dobie Gillis. Sparkling with big-band tunes, free-wheeling dance numbers and plenty of collegiate high jinks, the success of this picture was enough to earn Dobie a TV series in 1959, where Dwayne Hickman took over the duties that Bobby Van so wonderfully introduced here.
