A mob hit gone awry results in a plague of running zombies that know how to handle firearms. Paul Varlo was attempting to silence a rat when he poisoned the water supply of the man about to turn evidence on him. But when the poison taints the water supply, the result is an army of flesh-eating zombies. These aren't your typical, shambling gut-munchers either; they're fast on their feet, and they know how to use weapons. Meanwhile, as a small group of survivors scheme to board a boat and set sail for Chicago, Jake and his girlfriend Laura arrive in town to deliver Varlo a priceless heirloom, and collect a cool $2 million. Unsettled by the eerie silence that has fallen over the blood-soaked streets, Jake and Laura are quickly beset by agile zombies, and race to collect their cash while they still can.
