In his first feature film, Bill Cosby stars as Caleb Revers, a black Civil War veteran who takes his wife (Gloria Foster) and 12 year-old son (George Spell) to Arizona and sets up a homestead. A kindly neighbor gives him a horse to help work the land, but before long, racist white folks steal his horse. Caleb and his son set out to retrieve the horse, but several dangerous obstacles, including a crazed sheriff and an arch rival from Caleb's past, stand in their way.
