The life of NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt is depicted in the ESPN original movie 3: THE DALE EARNHARDT STORY. Barry Pepper (who received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his performance of another legendary athlete, Roger Maris, in 61*) portrays Earnhardt, aka "The Intimidator" who won numerous NASCAR titles over the course of his career, often in spectacular and unexpected fashion. This film biography chronicles Earnhardt's rise to prominence, and the relationship with his father Ralph (J.K. Simmons) and his son-both race car drivers as well-juxtaposing his on track successes and difficulties with those of his family life. 3 charts the triumphs and ultimate tragedy of Dale Earnhardt's unprecedented racing career.
