This melodramatic, intelligent action film, which provides a complex look at the fall of British colonialism in Africa, stars Richard Attenborough as a by-the-books sergeant in a British colony. He is in charge of transferring authority to new leadership in the newly independent colony, but when African officer Lt. Boniface (Errol John) instigates a rebellion, the previously immovable Sergeant is forced to examine his own rigid beliefs.
