The wiles of Hollywood and the film industry open up and devour Jamie King (Jamie Foxx) in this satirical show from 1996. Working hard to become a star, Jamie has to perform a delicate balancing act between working at a hotel that his family owns, and honing his skills as a stand-up comedian. He uses his working time to test out his act, to the annoyance of sparring partner and coworker Braxton Hartnabrig (Christopher B. Duncan). In between entertaining and irritating the staff and its guests, Jamie loves to woo desk clerk Francesca "Fancy" Monroe (Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon), who is less than keen to reciprocate. It all adds up to a bundle of laughs, with Jamie Foxx letting his talent unfold onto the screen, and garnering some impressive ratings for the WB channel.
